PROJECT
VIDEOAMP APP DESIGN
& DEVELOPMENT
OVERVIEW
I had the opportunity to define the UX strategy for VideoAmp as they planned to transition their events from standard evite and email platforms to an app with a bespoke experience.

BLENDING A COMPANY’S
EVENT MARKETING,
INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS,
& EXTERNAL CLIENT EXPERIENCES
INTO ONE APP IS CHALLENGING
/ APPROACH
Our goal was to launch in time for CES 2022 leaving us with a tight 5-month timeline. We needed to quickly uncover what was needed and began asking the who, what, when, where, and why’s.
This helped the team identify 4 key areas of focus. (1) A home for VideoAmp events and experiences, (2) an exclusive “Drop Shop” for VIP customers and VideoAmp employees, (3) a dashboard to bring together news, upcoming events, educational resources, and (4) exclusive insights.
/ 5 MONTHS UNTIL APP LAUNCH
VideoAmp wanted to include different tiers that would impact the experience and I wanted to document and reflect that in the user flow.
01. Gather requirements and create user flow to plan everything out
02. Rapidly sketch for further discovery
Round 1 wires felt like rapid sketches that helped me figure out what kinds of functionalities were needed for our 4 key areas of focus.
Another goal at this stage was to put some visuals to the user flow and get a feeling of how users might navigate through the app as they explore and RSVP for events, order VIP merch drops, and get exclusive VideoAmp insights.
03. Refine wireframes
& setting UX strategy
At the core of my initial flows lay discovery and action: users engage with events and merch at a glance, then delve deeper to RSVP or order.
In Round 2 wireframes, I designated sheet-ups for primary actions with details revealed above full screen promotional videos. This would create visual interest and direct users to swipe up for additional information.
Simultaneously, I explored unique layouts for each screen, aligning with VideoAmp's motion graphics-heavy branding. The focus was more videos, less words.
/ 4 MONTHS UNTIL APP LAUNCH
Early engaging dev
Because events, merch, and exclusive insights would need to be consistently updated we had conversations with dev on creating a custom content management system (CMS) on React Native for both Android and iOS.
This also enabled us to quickly add new content and also create the user tier system which allowed employees to sign in with special privileges and customer data to sync with statuses for extra VIP access.
Users are alerted through their mobile devices.
Push notification
Push notifications can bring users deep into experiences within the app.
In app deep linking
Segment users to show customized experiences and content.
User account systems
Apple and Google wallet integration
Users can add unique QR codes for events and experiences to their digital wallet.
/ 3 MONTHS UNTIL APP LAUNCH
Handoff to visual design
2 months into the project and Rob Hutti (Creative Director) began visual designs using the wireframes and UX guidelines I set.
While he applied and evolved VideoAmp’s brand guidelines in the app, I continued to consult on interaction patterns throughout the visual design process.
/ 2 MONTHS UNTIL APP LAUNCH
Dev Handoff + Demo
Rob and Column Five (Agency Partner) took over handoff to developers which was set to finish within 2 months.
At this point I had taken a step back from the project but eagerly waited for a demo and the launched app.
/ APP LAUNCH
CES 2022
As January 2022 rolled around, the team prepared the CMS for exclusive employee and VIP client events.
The launch was a success! However, a feedback we received was that there was a lack of content outside of a few events and 1 merch item. We had created an app that scaled very well but not enough material to scale it with. VideoAmp then got to work to create more events, drop more merch, and provide even more exclusive insights and news to their userbase.
