CREATING A WEBSITE IN A HIGHLY TECHNICAL SPACE WITH SECURITY RISKS IS CHALLENGING
/ APPROACH
Drone airspace management is at the intersection of government, technology, and cybersecurity so there are a lot of risks when it comes to what information can be shared. Because of this, Skysafe’s website fell short of their client and talent acquisition goals.
First step was to meet with Grant Jordan (CEO of Skysafe) because we knew that content strategy would play a big role in the UX of the website and wanted to obtain as much information as possible on Skysafe’s services to leverage and tell a story.
/ PROCESS
Skysafe had agreed to 5 pages for their website so I started by structuring the sitemap and strategically organizing content under key categories to ensure clarity and coherence for users navigating through the site.
01. Create a sitemap to organize content
02. Wireframe the website and begin layering in visuals
At this stage I applied visual strategy to craft a narrative of airspace security and Skysafe's expertise and authority in this area across each webpage.
Collaborating with Rob Hutti (Creative Director), we opted for a distinctive imagery style featuring drones composed of geometric dots and lines symbolizing data points to reinforce Skysafe's reputation as an industry expert.
Following the finalization of wireframes, our client review with Grant and Mike Spindel (Co-Founder) approved the site structure, and appreciated the strategic integration of data-focused visuals and lead generation CTAs.
They had also requested increased photography imagery, so we planned to incorporate them into the visual designs, enhancing the overall user experience.
03. Wireframe client review
/ VISUAL DESIGN
Bringing the wireframes to life
After a positive client review, I handed off wireframes to Rob for visual design, while maintaining consultation on UX and content strategy to ensure alignment with project goals.
/ REFLECTION
The first of many projects
This website was one of the first projects I had ever done at my time at Metajive so it holds a special place in my heart. I learned that communication with stakeholders is key to ensuring that projects stay aligned to the original vision while enabling design to be influenced by my own ideas. Through this project I’ve come to really enjoy the cross-section of user experience and visual design.
